Episodes 1 and 2

These are two of the best fur coats! Today’s feature is Lee Seung Gi’s fake fur coats from Episode One of Hwayugi which is shown on Netflix. One of my favorite shows with some of the best costuming on ALL the characters.

First of the Best Fur Coats

Lee Seung Gi plays Son Oh Gong — the Monkey King — and here (spoiler alert) someone releases him from his prison. (While in prison, he looks just like a 2008 kpop star. Okay, this look is too good — not fur — but still too good to miss. So, scroll down to the bottom for a photo.) Anyway, the Monkey King comes from a really hot place and apparently Korea in the summer isn’t hot enough! (Spoiler, Korea is really hot in the summer.) Hence, the fur coats.

This is the first one. I have no idea what animal this is supposed to be. A really cool one? With dark underfur, spotted some places, mildly striped others. In any event, it is has a long, shaggy fur that might suggest it has been packed away in Son Oh Gong’s metaphorical closet for several centuries.

The Second of the Best Fur Coats

This one is very lovely, with its diagonal stripes and enormous lapels and mid-shin length. It is as if a fox and a mink combined to make elegant tails to adorn this coat.

Finally, these last two really show the fox/mink tails of the design. You probably noticed how the longer red-brown “fox” fur slightly combs over the mink colored fur giving a very pleasing effect. The designer of this coat placed the tails diagonally, and made them big and bold enough to not get lost in this very dramatic coat.

Great Hair! Great Tattoo!

Right? Right? Great hair, great tattoo. Great lounging-at-home-for-thousands-of-years robe. But not really Lee Seung Gi in 2008. He just looks like it. You can find this look in Episode 1 of A Korean Odyssey!

So there we have it …

Lee Seung Gi looking really spectacular in all his looks. Come back to this space to see other fashion choices from this show. check out the show to see these looks in action. Although sites for viewing kdramas change regularly, two good places to start are Viki (my favorite) and Netflix. Enjoy all the great kdrama men’s fashion there.
